Sketches Abroad

To me, sketching is a practice less concerned with the graphical nature of a piece and more so with an idea and the way in which it is represented. Mimicking is less important than representing an aspect of a subject; and in the process, abstraction often comes into play. To think of a sketch architecturally, I view it as a construct that must be completed with certain logic and tools.

Methods of sketching such as measuring, contour drawing, hatching, and breathing line dictate how the line and dot(the most essential details) are governed.

Given the opportunity to travel in Europe, I felt it obligatory to keep a sketchbook with me as a record of the places to which I went. Sketching can be a better tool of memory than a photograph or video because it selects and edits a scene as to how the eye experiences it.
