Open-Close Box

The Open-Close Box is a portable pavilion meant to be moved around different locales around Mexico. It provides the public with a shaded space with a pair of hammocks- an invitation for a moment to rest. However, individuals may be surprised to find that once they enter the seemingly private space and lay themselves on the hammocks, they are immediately displayed out to the general public. The hammocks are integrated with the architecture by activating a pulley system which raises shading louvers in its skin. This skin serves as a mediator between the individual and collective public with an intent to invite others to take time to rest. Hopefully, a stressed or tired individual walking by will see the activated structure and will be reminded of the benefits of rest.
