This project was rooted in the simple desire to create a piece of personal decoration for a room. Its shape, being one of the platonic solids, offered up a template that was an interesting geometry formed from a basic unit-piece- the pentagon. The proper angles were found by first modeling the dodecahedron shape in Rhino and then using that information to cut the unit-pieces correctly. When the pentagonal unit-pieces are aggregated, they begin to form the fascinating geometry of the vase. The pieces were colored to give the vase an extra eye-catching appeal. The Dodecahedron Vase adorns an otherwise plain, domestic room with a splash of color.
